I’m not really the techie green guy but I know the obvious benefits of solar energy. Las Vegas (and Southern Nevada) is surrounded by vacant land and with all of the sun, It’s great to see that Southern Nevada is starting to put it to use.
Instead of trying to explain it, here is a great video of the Nevada Solar One project located on the border of Boulder City. At a cost of $250,000,000 it generates enough power for 15,000 homes which works out to a little over $16,500 per home. (Not bad since I know Las Vegas home owners with big homes, pools, etc… that easily spend $3,000 a year on their electric bills.)
Some of the facts are absolutely staggering when you think about it. The Acciona Solar One project generates enough energy that saves 200,000,000 pounds of Carbon Dioxide emissions or the equivalent of taking 17,000 cars off of the road a year.
Here is another great link to learn more about the benefits of the Nevada Solar One Project.
I’ve been saying for years that getting into the solar installation business for Las Vegas would be a phenomenal business since I can’t think of one company doing it. Kyocera has MyGen Residential Solar products with a PV calculator to help calculate the benefits a home owner would see for installation.
